Finding Lucy provides educational, emotional, and financial information and resources to support surviving widows and widowers with young children.

Our Story

In Fall 2018, the American Dream finally felt within reach. Yumin and Eileen were a young couple with a new baby, rising careers, and their second wedding anniversary on the horizon. Then tragedy hit. Between sleepless nights and endless days, a routine doctor’s visit changed everything and ultimately, their worst fears were confirmed: Yumin, in his mid-30’s, had terminal cancer.

Two years and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, clinical trials, and other experimental treatments later, Eileen found herself a widow and single mother in the same night. In the agonizing weeks following, it became clear that there wasn’t enough information or support for the various needs of the young widow/widower demographic.

In an effort to initiate change and provide a voice for those experiencing similar loss, Finding Lucy was founded in September 2021, near the anniversary of Yumin’s passing, to honor his love and service for those in need. Finding Lucy aims to provide a light in the darkness by serving young adult parents with young children through programs that provide support and community to those far too often forgotten.
